The former Irish Bar has been taken over by Germans, but you could call it friendly fire - owner Mike Walk goes way back with the previous owners. Daughter and bar manager, Simone Walk, who effervescently and warmly chats for hours about her dad and the place, says that her aviation enthusiast father took over Irish pubs in Germany. He owns two Doppel Deckers in Fulda, near Frankfurt, where he added a multicultural ambiance and aviation motif (doppel decker is German for biplane). But the bar hasn't lost any of its Gaelic character. If anything, it feels more Irish, plus German, English and American. The red brick walls, heavy wood fixtures, vintage art and cask-supported tables lend distinctive character to Seventh Avenue. With two stories, three bars, "kicking A/C" (as our friend John Kennedy puts it) plus imported mahogany flooring from Bavaria, 17 or so beers on tap and comfy outdoor biergarden, the Doppel Decker might fly for a long time.
