The original Hamburger Mary's, in San Francisco's South of Market area, was gay-friendly, divey and free-spirited, with ruby slippers as planters, baby bottles serving as coffee creamers, and lots of people with suspiciously big feet dressed as women. It was a warm and inclusive late-night destination where a messy burger and slightly sodden fries were the inevitable capper to carousing.

Centro Ybor has gotten an outpost. It dutifully does female impersonator shows and such, and the hamburgers are solid but not likely to make Mary the queen of the burger ball. A full array of cocktails (many with sly gay innuendo names like the Zipper Ripper or the Long "Guy" Land Iced Tea) and familiar beers peg Hamburger Mary's as a good-times, whoop-it-up kind of place.
