This long-time St. Pete gathering spot was one of the few places you could grab a bite and a brew in the sleepy town back in the early '80s when it first opened. Now 25+, it still draws a crowd most nights -- business types getting off work, families after Little League and some of St. Pete's most recognizable faces (former and current mayors like to network there).
The smallish, raised bar area itself is merely a stop on the way to a table, save for some hardy souls who make leaning against its red rail an art form as they drink and gab the night away. The food is standard bar fare, but sometimes with a twist (wild rice is one of the sides).
The joint's full moon party each month is worth checking out every once in a while. And get in line for brunch: This neighborhood favorite serves most of its menu, from burgers to grouper dinners, plus pancakes, omelets, skillets and poached eggs five ways, from Benedict to tenderloin, for a full-bore Sunday banquet.
