At Honeymoon Island State Park, you can swim, skimboard, bird watch, fish, snorkel, picnic or just catch some rays. Bring your pup, too, because there's a dog park on the south beach. Animals are also allowed on the marked trails and in the picnic area. Showers are available and the park´s concession area has a gift shop and Cafe Honeymoon snack bar.
It was the state's most visited park in 2010, with more than a million visitors.
Honeymoon Island has a reputation for its relatively untouched environment. A state park since 1982, it receives many visitors for its shelling opportunities and wildlife, including a trail that features 26 osprey nests and a 185-year-old pine tree.
There are two covered picnic pavilions and grills next to the nature trail and several picnicking areas. The park is open from 8 a.m. until sundown.
Admission is $8 per vehicle (two to eight people), $4 vehicle with one occupant, $2 pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers. There is a $4 per vehicle sunset fee, starting one hour before sunset.
From Honeymoon, catch the ferry to Caladesi. Service starts daily at 10 a.m. and runs every 30 minutes. The last ferry leaves Caladesi at 4:30 p.m. (it may go later on a busy day) Tickets are $14 for adults and $7 for children 6 to 12.
