This charmer, set in a 1936 Florida bungalow, has a recently expanded menu of traditional French bistro fare, with steaks (entrecôte, ribeye, filet) that can be paired with optional sides (pommes Lyonnaise, haricots verts, little French lentils) as well as full liquor service, and an attractively remodeled bar area. Already the loveliest restaurant in Safety Harbor, the patio seating, shaded by old oaks, looks more like a French sidewalk café with many smaller tables. There is soupe à l’oignon, formal beef tartare service with all the doodads, mussels steamed in white wine, boeuf bourguignon — anyone who has spent a little time at the knee of Julia Child will recognize these dishes, most of them textbook presentations at reasonable prices (most entrees in the mid-$20s). And what would Julia suggest for dessert? Crème brûlée, crisp top giving way with a tap to the lush custard below, naturellement!
