2741 22nd St. S, St. Petersburg, FL 33712
Located on the north shore of Lake Maggiore, Dell Holmes Park is the home of St. Petersburg's first zero-depth water playground. Open from May 1 to Oct. 31, it has water bubbling up from the ground, shooting from dolphins and frogs and pouring from colorful arches as kids scamper on the non-skid surface. The sprayground is part of the playground area and operates during the summer months. An in-ground tank holds 3,000 gallons of recirculated, chlorinated water. The playground can accommodate 70 people. SplashPad's hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through October.
NOTE: The sprayers are motion-activated so don't think the park is closed if you don't see water spouts going.
Other features in the 21-acre park include an accessible and lighted fitness trail, fishing pier, gazebo, picnic shelters, golf driving range and putting green. The playground area features climbing boulders and a giant seesaw.
Dell Holmes is normally open 30 minutes before sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset every day, but cost-saving measures have reduced and changed park hours of operation. Phone the recreation department for the current schedule.
