As the city's oldest museum, the Museum of History's mission is to collect, preserve and communicate the history and heritage of Florida, especially St. Petersburg and the Pinellas Peninsula. Exhibits include the World’s First Commercial Airline, run by city pioneer Tony Jannus. Museum collections include more than 32,000 artifacts, an archive of over 8,000 historic photos and 5,000 documents, including news clippings with subject lists and real estate Platt books. Guided and cell-phone tours are offered. Located on the approach to the Pier, the museum looks out on Tampa Bay, the Vinoy yacht basin, city marina and Straub Park. There is a special price of $28 for families of four, with additional children $2. The museum can be rented for events.
