Union Station lies at the eastern edge of Tampa and is the gateway to Ybor City. The historic station serves as a passenger stop for two passenger trains each day, Amtrak’s New York-Miami Silver Star, trains 91 and 92. Additionally, Amtrak Thruway motorcoach services depart Tampa Union Station for connections with trains 97/98, the New York-Miami Silver Meteor.
The Friends of Tampa Union Station state that their mission is to “advocate for the preservation of historic Tampa Union Station as both a landmark and transportation asset.” Opened in 1912, the station served passengers through the Great Depression and both World Wars. In 1974, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Today, it relies on donations from private organizations to keep up its maintenance.
