Adjacent to the Bay Pines VA Medical Center, this 122-acre park on Boca Ciega Bay was donated to the county as surplus federal property. A major feature is the lighted, six-lane boat ramp that can be used 24 hours a day. There are 112 parking spaces nearby and Boca Ciega Bay provides access to the Gulf of Mexico. Other amenities include: five picnic shelter (which can be reserved); two playgrounds (one for ages 2 to 5); water fountains and a one-mile, unpaved trail. Picnic shelter 5, on the point, is popular for weddings.
The central Memorial Center features a sundial, and placques and official flags of the five armed services. A four-man tank from the Korean War is displayed nearby. The park is also known as the Bay Pines War Veterans Park.
Be aware that some restrooms in county parks are closed weekdays to cut costs. However, facilities near the most popular spots remain open. All restrooms are open on weekends. Check the park's Web site or phone. Pinellas County parks are opened from 7 a.m. until sunset, year-round.
