Home to the Tampa Bay Rays, Tropicana Field is beloved by a loyal core of fans, but ridiculed by many. The stadium is full of charms and quirks that make it seem like a member of the team itself.

While the Rays have only been in the league since 1998, the Trop is the seventh oldest ballpark in the majors. When the Florida Marlins open a new stadium in 2012, the Trop will move to sixth place behind such historic stadiums as Fenway Park, Wrigley Field and Dodger Stadium.

When the Trop opened in 1990, the first event wasn’t a baseball game, it was a Billy Joel concert. Since that time the Tampa Bay Storm (1991-96) and the Tampa Bay Lightning (1993-96) both called it home. In 1995 when the bay area was awarded a baseball franchise, it became the home of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, who are now just the Rays.
