Screens: 20, with three 3D.
Tickets are always $5 before noon, making the morning a great time to catch a flick without the headache of Brandon traffic. If you dare venture out for a date night, there are plenty of nearby places to eat before and after your movie, including GrillSmith and Cheesecake Factory just across Brandon Boulevard at Westfield Brandon mall. In the theater, there are two concession areas.
On weekends, the place is crawling with teenagers. The parking lot can be a zoo. Instead of parking in No Man's Land, your best bet is to drive around to the front of the complex, park by the TJ Maxx and walk through the breezeway to the theater. Tickets can be purchased online.
Adults/Seniors: $5, Children ages 5-8: $1
Bargain hunters could spend a day at Britton Plaza and not leave broke. Between all the discount stores - Marshalls, Big Lots, Burlington Coat Factory and Dollar Tree, to name a few - this no-frills theater complex is a perfect fit. Second-run Hollywood releases are $1 on Tuesdays and $3 the rest of the week. (Avatar for a buck. Yes, it's true.) For Bollywood fans, the theater also has daily showings of new Indian films.
But don't expect to snack on dollar popcorn and sodas while watching a digital film in stadium-style seating. This theater caters to people on the fence about paying top dollar for a mediocre movie.
Muvico Centro Ybor has 20 screens, with one 3D. There's all stadium seating. Foodwise, the snack bar offers substantial options like popcorn shrimp, buffalo wings and sliders. And on Tuesdays, adult tickets are $6 all day.
This can be a classy place for a date. For starters, there are fresh flowers on the lobby tables. Then there's the full liquor bar. You can take drinks into any theater, but aim for No. 15 or 16. Those two are more upscale with wider seats, left over from their adults-only days. But every theater offers comfy seats with adjustable armrests, making them prime for snuggling.
It is Ybor, so parking's not free. But the Centro Ybor garage charges only $1 for up to three hours, which gives you ample time for dinner and a movie. Just be sure to wear comfortable shoes; it's a wee bit of a hike. Or spring for valet parking. Get your valet ticket validated inside the theater, and it'll set you back only $3. The theater can host children's birthday parties and there are "family-friendly" specials. Tickets can be purchased in advance online. There are devices for the hearing impaired and theaters are wheelchair accessible.
Screens: 10, all digital. Three 3D digital screens, including one 70-foot screen (formerly the IMAX). A fourth 3D screen is on the way.
You won't find much better in terms of picture quality and sound. Channelside is completely digital and no longer uses traditional film that can break mid-movie or sound scratchy. The complex also has Dolce Vita, a dinner and movie lounge available for private parties. The lounge has booths, couches and cocktail tables for watching the 35-foot screen, plus an adjacent patio with an outdoor screen.
Parking can be a pain. The theater offers 50-cent parking in the garage for up to four hours but you have to get the coin chip validated at the theater. Otherwise, the garage costs $1 for every half-hour. Tickets can be purchased in advance online. Theaters are wheelchair accessible. There are facilities for birthday parties, private and corporate events.
Adults: $12.00, Seniors: $11.00, Children: $10.00
Here's a chance to eat and watch a movie without moving an inch. Just order off the menu, and a server will deliver it to your seat before the opening credits. Seating is reserved, and all guests must be 21. Anyone not wanting to watch a movie can hang out in the lounge out front. Entrees range from fettuccine al forno to sesame seared tuna and churrasco steak and frites. Appetizers, salads, sandwiches and desserts also on the menu. Wine and champagne sold by the glass and bottle. Speciality martinis and cocktails carry movie-inspired names, from the Usual Suspect Appletini to the Eating Gilbert Grape vodka drink. Opened in 1995, the IMAX Dome Theater has 10,500 square feet of screen space. It has a specially designed, six-channel, multispeaker sound system, and the projected image is 10 times larger than a conventional 35mm frame and three times larger than a standard 70mm frame. That makes for a powerful movie-going experience, especially for many of the 3-D movies released these days. In the lobby, BAR 1570, named for the type of film used to shoot IMAX movies, serves a wide variety of beer, wine and top-shelf liquors. During the showing for the final installment on the Harry Potter film series, it served Butterbeer with a shot of vodka in it.

The landmark Tampa Theatre is a restored vintage movie palace known for its classic architecture and independent film showings. The venue, opened in 1926, seats 1,446 and hosts various film festivals.
The dazzling night-sky ceiling, plush red velvet draperies, gold inlaid facades, Renaissance statues - it's all breathtaking, distracting audiences from the show they paid to see. The theater is one of a handful of restored cinema palaces, built in a Florida-Mediterranean style, which includes touches of Italian Renaissance, Byzantine, Spanish, Mediterranean, Greek Revival, Baroque and English Tudor.
The above-average concession stand sells popcorn, soda, beer, gourmet coffee, nachos, pastries, candy and other snacks at reasonable prices. Smoking is permitted outside by the front entrance.
Reopened December 2011.

What's not to love about this kitschy, 1939 art-deco theater? It hosts arthouse flicks and cult favorites, cinema classics, second- and first-run movies, concerts and concert films. They've hosted big-screen competitions for video games like Halo 3 and Rock Band. On the downside, owner and screenwriter Michael France doesn't always show every big-money action movie and despite the name, the theater is a lengthy walk from any actual sand. But t he single-screen, 245-seat movie house is a local favorite and harkens back to a time when going to the movies was an experience, and popcorn came with real butter.
Along with beer and wine, cocktails are available during some special engagements. The theater can be rented for corporate or private parties. It has a large wooden stage suitable for a band and the sound system has been upgraded to Dolby Digital quality.
For a classy date night, it's hard to beat a meal at one of downtown St. Pete's cool restaurants, a movie, a walk through the park and - why not? - a night at the Vinoy. BayWalk recently opened "The Gallery," a wing of four smaller indie-movie theaters with oversized leather seats, art on the walls, a beer, wine and cocktail bar and a 21-and-up area. It's one of the few local theaters that offers the full Digital IMAX 3D experience, and it was the home theater to the recent Sunscreen Film Festival, which attracted guests like John Travolta. BayWalk often hosts wine and music events on Friday evenings (see newbaywalk.com for details). And be sure to grab some flavored powder for your popcorn.
The downside: Forget the protesters that once plagued the Baywalk shopping plaza, most of the businesses and restaurants have left. Until more shops come back, you might have a hard time killing time before your flick. Street parking is hit or miss, though the theater does validate parking stubs from the BayWalk garage after 5 p.m. weekdays and all day on weekends.

Central Pasco's first movie house, the most exciting element is table service in the balconies. For adults only, seats up there allow you to order from a full menu of appetizers, entrees, desserts and cocktails. Order before the movie starts, settle into the luxurious high-back leather rockers, then swivel the seat table into position when the server brings the goods. If you finish eating mid-movie, just swivel that table back out of the way. So far the kitchen needs to rethink some of the dishes (popcorn shrimp that is quite literally fried shrimp mixed with popcorn), but it's a good bet for cocktails and dessert, from a solid peanut butter pie to a cheery trio of cupcakes with the added drama of a little Pop Rocks topping.
