5 things to do under $5: Open Streets St. Pete, Tampa’s Fourth Friday, Doggy Derby

1 Open Streets St. Pete: Go play in the street! For five hours Sunday, Central Avenue will be closed to cars between Ninth and 22nd streets to allow the public to freely bike, stroll or roll skateboards. The pet-friendly afternoon will have vendors, food trucks and activities such as free 30-minute boot camp classes, the Nomad Art Bus for kids, cornhole, giant Jenga and other games. 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. 2 Doggy Derby: Dogs can dive in and splash in the pool at Seminole Family Aquatic Center on Saturday. They will play games and compete in a costume contest. Every dog takes home a swag bag of treats. 1-4 p.m. Saturday. 9100 113th St. N, Seminole. $5 per dog. (727) 397-6085.

3 Downtown Tampa’s Fourth Friday: Museums, restaurants and performing arts venues around downtown Tampa offer extended hours, admission deals or special programming. Specials this month include a Stranger Things-themed "Maze-Hunt" — half maze, half scavenger hunt – 4-6 p.m. at the John F. Germany Library, 900 N Ashley Drive. The Tampa Museum of Art, 120 W Gasparilla Plaza, will have pay-as-you-will admission 4-10 p.m. and free scheduled gallery activities. The TECO Streetcar system will offer free rides to those with wristbands. Maps and free wristbands can be obtained at participating venues, found at fourthfridaytpa.com.

4 Junk in the Trunk, Or on a Truck: Pile your junk in your trunk, or on the bed of a truck, and bring it to swap, give away or trash. 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Gulfport Neighborhood Center, 1617 49th St. S, Gulfport. (727) 893-1118.

5 Great American Cooterfest: Famously lampooned on The Daily Show, the city of Inverness’ largest annual event celebrates the water turtle and features of family-fun activities. The weekend features a "Cooterween" party, live music, barbecue competitions, games, food, fireworks and old-time carnival activities. 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Sunday.
