3 Kumquat Festival: One of Dade City’s most charming events, you can discover the spirit of "Old Florida’’ at this festival devoted to the tart little fruit that looks like a miniature orange but with a sweet rind. There’s also food trucks, farmers market vendors, arts and crafts, antique car and truck show, a quilt display, health and wellness exhibits, a children’s area and local entertainment from country music to cloggers and dancing. No pets. Free. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Meridian Avenue and Seventh Street in downtown Dade City, with a shuttle to nearby parking.

4 Media Issues: The challenges of the media, the impact of social media and the state of public trust in the news will be discussed at a panel with NPR TV critic Eric Deggans, Tampa Bay Times political editor Adam Smith and Times news researcher Caryn Baird. Free. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday. Allendale United Methodist Church, 3803 Haines Road, St. Petersburg.

5 Mastry’s Brewing Chili Cookoff: This inaugural chili competition is free for chili entries and $5 for tasting the results as fans vote for the ultimate Chili Champion. Judging starts at 6 p.m., along with music from DeshunMusic. Awards for Chili Cookoff Champion announced at 9:30 p.m. Tasting fees benefit local charity. 6-10 p.m. Saturday. 7701 Blind Pass Road, St. Pete Beach. (727) 202-8045.
