5 things to do under $5: Taste of Science talks, free 'Field of Dreams' screening

1 Field of Dreams: Kick off baseball season with Tampa Bay Rays mascots and a movie that makes every baseball fan cry. Raymond and DJ Kitty will be at Tampa Theatre for photos and you can join in a Take Me Out to the Ballpark sing-along on the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ before a free screening of the 1989 classic Field of Dreams. 2 Taste of Science: Find out what some of Tampa Bay's top scientists are up to at these casual talks in pubs and restaurants from Sunday through April 28. They will be discussing everything from comets to carbon dioxide to cutting-edge developments in cancer research. Wednesday is Women in Science night at c.1949, at 6905 N Orleans Ave., Tampa, with an all-female panel of speakers and a trivia game. Friday at 7venth Sun Brewery, 1012 Broadway, Dunedin, brings Florida's marine scientists discussing sharks and crustaceans. The filmmakers of Chasing Corals will offer a free screening of the documentary. It's $5 per talk and you can see a lineup and get tickets at tasteofscience.org/tampa.

3 Florida Orchestra Family Concerts: A 35-minute performance to introduce young children to classical music with 45 minutes of activities, including the Instrument Petting Zoo. Pay-what-you-can at 10 and 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the Mahaffey Theater, 400 First St. S, St. Petersburg. (727) 892-3337.

4 Beach Goes Pops: Bring a blanket or a chair to the annual festival featuring free music, an arts and crafts show, food and drinks from area restaurants noon-10:30 p.m. Saturday. Performances by Peace of Woodstock (3-5 p.m.), the 18-piece TomKats Jazz Orchestra (5:50-7:30 p.m.) and the Alter Eagles tribute band (8 p.m.). Pass-a-Grille Beach, 107 16th Ave., St. Pete Beach.
