5 things to do under $5: Faerie Festival in Gulfport, free ferry rides, Jackie Robinson Day, free movies in the park

1Springfest Garden Art and Faerie Festival: One of the most charming festivals of the year is in Gulfport's Clymer Park, which will be inhabited by roaming costumed faeries, sprites, gnomes, ogres, trolls and Renaissance-era characters. There will be live music, carnival rides and a marketplace. Free. Costumes encouraged. Gulfport Boulevard 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday-Saturday.

2Jackie Robinson Day: See a screening of the locally produced documentary The First at the St. Petersburg Museum of History in celebration of Jackie Robinson Day, who made his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947, ending baseball's color barrier. Museum doors will be open at 6 p.m. Friday for guests to view the Schrader's Little Cooperstown exhibit. $5 suggested donation. Film begins at 7 p.m. 335 Second Ave. NE.

3Free Ferry Rides: This Sunday's free rides on the Cross-Bay Ferry are first come, first served and cannot be reserved in advance. Your best bet is to go to the ticket office early and reserve a time for later at the Tampa Convention Center and in St. Petersburg at 335 Second Ave. NE. (727) 894-1052. See crossbayferry.com for departure times.

4Free movies in the park: This week brings three ways to have a cheap date or family outing. Watch the sun set, then see Zootopia Friday in Dunedin's Pioneer Park, Main Street and Douglas Avenue. At Largo Central Park, they will have themed activities starting at 7 p.m. Friday before showing Storks. And see The Blind Side on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Tampa's Water Works Park.

5Taste of Tierra Verde & Car Show: The car and truck show on the Pinellas Bayway features menu favorites from local restaurants, activities for kids, music from DJ Tommy Tunes and 31 classes of the displayed cars and trucks at 1110 Pinellas Bayway S. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
