3Free Golf for Kids: Every day through the end of August, kids ages 5 to 15 can sign up to receive a free small bucket of range balls to hit on the Ace Practice Ranges in Brandon and Riverview or at the Pebble Creek Golf Club in New Tampa or at the Wentworth Golf Club or Crescent Oaks Country Club, both in Tarpon Springs. Hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, weather permitting. (813) 651-4653.

Costumed re-enactors will share hands-on displays of artifacts, uniforms, crafts and music representing the Civil War, the Seminole Wars, the Spanish-American War and the World War II era. Stick around in Cotanchobee Park for a view of the Channelside fireworks at 9 p.m. The history center, 801 Old Water St., Tampa, is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. (813) 228-0097.

5Park Ranger Nature Educational Program: Every weekend, the park rangers at Tampa's Lettuce Lake Park hold themed hands-on workshops exploring elements of nature. This week's topic is the owls of Lettuce Lake Park, and the workshop is from 10 a.m. to noon both Saturday and Sunday. The cost is $5 per child accompanied by an adult. Also, adults without children may participate for $5. Park entry is $2 for up to eight people at 6920 E Fletcher Ave., Tampa. (813) 987-6204.
