5 things to do under $5 this week: Batman Day, WMNF open house, National Gymnastics Day

1 Batman Day: Wham! Bam! Saturday is Batman Day! The promotional gimmick from DC Comics will have a huge video component this year (to tie in with the launch of new streaming service DC Universe). Multiple comic book stores, libraries and bookstores nationwide will join in the celebration of the Dark Knight with a free comic book giveaway featuring the first chapter of the Batman: White Knight series. Younger fans can get a free copy of the first chapter of Batman: A Lot of Li’l Gotham. Emerald City Comics in Clearwater will also have cosplayers, raffles, games and other giveaways 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday. Libraries in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties will have events, like learning how to turn a flashlight into a Bat Signal and 3D-print a Batman keychain at 2 p.m., 10509 Riverview Drive, Riverview. Find a local store at dccomics.com/batmanday.

2 Florida Stories: Walking Tour App Launch: Safety Harbor has a new walking tour app that guides you through area streets to learn about local history. Tonight at the Safety Harbor Museum and Cultural Center, there will be refreshments and instructions on getting the new app. 6 p.m. 329 S Bayshore Blvd. Free. (727) 724-1562.

3 All the Hits of the ’60s: Speaking of history, this talk at Heritage Village on Sunday isn’t about rock music, but the popular music of the Civil War. Rick Moock, of the 97th Regimental String Band, discusses songs Civil War-era soldiers sang in camp and on the battlefield. Takes place in the Pinellas Room. 2 p.m. Sunday. Heritage Village, 11909 125th St., Largo. Free (donations appreciated). (727) 582-2123.

4 National Gymnastics Day: A free open house at the YMCA gymnastics center at the Bob Sierra Youth and Family Center in Tampa invites the public to tour the center, try out equipment and see a performance from the Top Flight Gymnastics Team. Free hot dogs, cake, face painting and an obstacle course bounce house. Noon-3 p.m. Saturday. 4015 Ragg Road. (813) 962-3220.

5 WMNF’s 39th Birthday Open House: On Friday, which is the community radio station’s 39th birthday, the station is inviting the public to celebrate in the studios. Get a tour of the station and meet the voices you hear on the air. You can bring a dessert to share "because it is a known fact that you can’t have too much cake," a station news release says. 6-9 p.m. Friday. WMNF Community Radio, 1210 E Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tampa. Free. (813) 238-8001.
