5 things under $5 Sept. 21-27: Snooty memorial, free Glazer Museum, actor Jackie Cruz, Talk Like a Pirate Day

1 Remembering Snooty: This public memorial was postponed by Hurricane Irma, but on Sunday the community gets a chance to honor Snooty, the beloved 69-year-old manatee at Bradenton's South Florida Museum. The museum will be open to the public for free for a day of remembrance from noon to 5 p.m. 201 10th St. W, Bradenton. (941) 746-4131.

3 Actor Jackie Cruz: The University of South Florida brings the actor best known as Flaca from Orange Is the New Black for a free talk. She plans to offer lessons on resilience, determination and "turning life's challenges into opportunities." Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for the 8 p.m. Tuesday talk at USF's Marshall Student Center, 4202 E Fowler Ave., Tampa.

4 St. Pete Shuffle Open House: The historic Mirror Lake St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club opens up on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for shuffleboard games for all ages with lessons, history tours and a DJ. It's a good way to publicize the regular Friday night shuffle held there weekly at 7 p.m. Free. 559 Mirror Lake Drive N, St. Petersburg. (727) 822-2083.

5 Talk Like a Pirate Day: Shiver me timbers! Tuesday 'tis the annual day we are free to greet each other with, "Avast there me buckos." Long John Silver's is offering a free deep-fried Twinkie for anyone who talks like a pirate, and the Drift Inn, 120 Bridge St., Bradenton Beach, is getting an early start at 1 p.m. Saturday with a "grog off," and photo ops with wicked wenches and pirates.
