Alice Cooper to visit Dali Museum

When rock icon Alice Cooper is in town for the Halloweenie Roast rock show at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre at the Florida State Fairgrounds later this month, he's also going to take a spin through St. Petersburg's Dali Museum to take part in a 40th anniversary celebration of Dali's Alice Cooper Hologram.

"I was nervous. I mean, I'd met the Beatles, and Elvis, and everybody, but this was Salvador Dali. This was like my history," Cooper has said of meeting the artist.

But you'll only get to meet the godfather of shock rock if you are a museum member, and even they need to enter a lottery to attend the members-only event Oct. 26 to hear the legend himself delve into how his world intertwined with Dali's.

A question-and-answer session will be hosted by Nick VanCleve of the 107.3-FM The Eagle morning show at 3 p.m. at the surreal downtown museum.

The contest ends at 5 p.m. Friday and winners will be notified by Oct. 16. Go to surveymonkey.com/s/dalialicecooper to enter. For museum information or membership, go to thedali.org.

  4. Bar review: Les Partners Lounge goes old-school in Clearwater

    Bars & Spirits

There are some local places that I'm shocked aren't more well known, and I think that's the result of a general aversion to stepping out of one's comfort zone. I make regular concerted efforts to step outside of mine, which often leads me to strange and rewarding drinking establishments.

Les Partners Lounge is an old-school, smoker-friendly cocktail lounge and live music venue tucked away in a nondescript shopping plaza in Island Estates.
