Bill Maher, Rajskub and more comics coming to Tampa Bay

Comedians who don't come around the Tampa Bay area very often are heading this way in the coming months, including Bill Maher, 24's favorite snarky spy Chloe played by Mary Lynn Rajskub and a Jackass star. Maher, who is coming to Ruth Eckerd Hall on Oct. 25, was last here in 2012 during the Republican National Convention and Tampa made the New Rules segment of his HBO show: "Next week in Tampa the Republicans must admit that the difference between a GOP convention and Comic-Con is that the people at Comic-Con have a much firmer grasp of reality." Rajskub has more fans than Keifer Sutherland on 24 but she got her start in comedy clubs. She'll be at Tampa's Side Splitters July 31-Aug. 3. Side Splitters has also lined up Jackass star Steve-O Aug. 7-10 and Jamie Kennedy on Aug. 21-23. — Sharon Kennedy Wynne, Times staff writer

  1. Seasoned cast scores an extra-base hit for St. Petersburg Opera with 'Faust'

    Stage

TAMPA — Charles Gounod's Faust sets the table early. The world-weary philosopher immortalized in a dramatic poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is in his study, lamenting his state of affairs. He's willing to give away everything he has to be young again, even his soul.

  2. Blake High grad Taylor Trensch lands lead role in 'Dear Evan Hansen' on Broadway

    Stage

For those who saw Taylor Trensch grow up in Tampa, his rise from promising student to star is heartwarming and entirely predictable. In January, Trensch, 28, will be moving into the title role of Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway, one of the hottest tickets in theater.
