Exotic pet amnesty day is Saturday

Keeping a Columbian red-tailed boa constrictor for a pet used to impress your friends. Now the snake has grown so large he's scaring them and you don't know what to do about it. Fear not — as if anyone petting a snake is capable of fear — because help is available. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will conduct another Exotic Pet Amnesty Day on Saturday at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve. They'll take your unwanted bearded dragons, pacu fish or whatever else swims, flies or crawls — no questions asked. Even if you aren't handing over a pet, the event can be a free, entertaining zoo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Boyd Hill Nature Preserve is located at 1101 Country Club Way S in St. Petersburg. Call (727) 893-7326 for information.
