Free app makes it easier to find Tampa area bike trails

Tampa isn't the most bike-friendly city, but the weather (watch those afternoon thunderstorms!) makes it a no-excuse way to go green and get some exercise while running errands or even commuting to work. That's why University Bicycle Center and Citrus Park Cyclery have partnered with an app developer to create My City Bikes, a free app that gives you a guide to the local bike trails, charts a safe commute to work, gives how-to's on bike maintenance and helps you find local rides. It's all part of a nationwide public health initiative that has set up similar free mobile apps in a dozen cities including two in Florida — Miami and Tampa. The app is free and available on Apple or Android devices at mycitybikes.org. — Sharon Kennedy Wynne, Times staff writer

  4. Taste test: new products including S'mores English Muffins, Town House crackers, Keebler Cereal with Real Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies and Birds Eye pasta

    Taste Test

My summer memories always included being hungry. I'm pretty sure it was boredom, but it was always dangerous for my mom to bring me and my siblings along on a July grocery run. We would always reach for sugary cereals or salty snacks. Apparently, we weren't alone. The grocery store aisles are full of new snack offerings …

  5. Discovering the true meaning of Black Forest cake in the German region itself

    Cooking

The first time I had a taste of the Black Forest, it wasn't by way of cake.

Black Forest Cake in Germany was granted legally protected status in 2013. It must use the gateau’s original ingredients, including kirsch, a brandy made from fermented sour cherries from the region.
