BRANDON — After a year of construction, the Gornto Lake Road expansion connecting State Road 60 to Town Center Boulevard will open Tuesday.
Hillsborough County commissioners will join representatives from the Westfield Brandon mall and the chamber of commerce in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Town Center Boulevard and S Gornto Lake Road.
The newly extended roadway is about half a mile long and provides access by four 11-foot-wide vehicle travel lanes and two 4-foot-wide bicycle lanes, as well as a 5-foot-wide sidewalks along both sides. The project cost was estimated at $4 million, and was funded by a Community Investment Tax.
The Gornto Lake Road expansion project, which finished two weeks ahead of schedule, was completed $85,000 under budget.
The expansion gives shoppers alternate access to Westfield Brandon and a more direct route to travel from State Road 60 to Causeway Boulevard.
