Have some Halloween fun on the North Suncoast

Get scared

Traverse a terrifying trail: A Halloween Extravaganza, featuring a haunted trail, will be from 8 to 10 p.m. tonight and Saturday and Oct. 23, 24, 30 and 31 at Survival Outreach Sanctuary, 22005 Bowman Road, Spring Hill. Admission is $5 per person. No one under the age of 12 will be permitted on the trail. Proceeds will benefit the care of the animals at the nonprofit sanctuary. For information, call (352) 799-2334.

Be afraid ... Be very afraid: Scream-a-geddon, an interactive horror park featuring live actors, six haunted attractions and a "Monster Midway" on 60 acres, is open on weekends, as well as on many Wednesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 7:30 p.m., through Nov. 1 at TreeHoppers, 27839 Saint Joe Road, west of Dade City. Haunted Angelus House: Situated on 25 acres, this PG-13-rated haunt will feature the Child's Nightmare Haunted House in 3D, Rhett Butler's Haunted Hay Ride, the Little Pigs Children's Haunt and fire dancers from 7 p.m. to midnight tonight, Saturday, Oct. 23-24 and Oct. 30-31 and from 7 to 11 p.m. Sunday, Wednesday (haunted house only), Thursday, Oct. 25 and Oct. 28-29 at the Angelus, 12413 Hudson Ave., Hudson. $12; $6 for ages 5 to 10, and free for children under age 5. Wild 'n' Wicked Nights: Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, 6131 Commercial Way, Weeki Wachee, will host its annual Halloween fright from 7 to 11 p.m. tonight, Saturday and Oct. 23-24. The event will feature the "Halloween Tails" mermaid show, "Once Upon a Time" stage show, a John Leggio production and attractions called Terror in the Woods, the Peek-A-Boo haunted trail, Frightening Freaks, Torture Trail and costume contests. Not for the faint of heart: J.B. Starkey Wilderness Park, 10500 Wilderness Park Road, New Port Richey, will become "Scream Acres" from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 23 and 24. Wander haunted houses, haunted trails and a graveyard. Admission is $1. For information, call (727) 942-7439.

A haunted hayride: Take a haunted hayride and walk the haunted trails where soldiers, Seminoles and pioneers from the past may meet (or scare) you from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 23 and 24 at the Dade Battlefield Historic State Park, 7200 County Road 603. Get festive

A Halloween hoedown: The Halloween-themed Hoedown and Fall Festival will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Kiddy Up Ranch, 10740 Brian Lane, New Port Richey. The event will feature a chili cook-off (tonight only), pony rides, trunk or treat, spooky hayrides, a costume contest, a petting zoo, a glow dance party, carriage rides and a raffle. Admission is $10 per child, $5 per adult and free for children ages 2 and younger. A haunted hayride is $10 extra. Proceeds will benefit Kiddy Up Ranch's equine therapy programs. A haunt and a harvest: The 25th annual Halloween Harvest Festival will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 23 and 24 at the Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 Broad St., Brooksville. The festival will feature games, face painting, a haunted house, hayrides and contests. Food will be available. A Pet Masquerade contest, with a $2 entry fee, will start at 6 p.m. Oct. 23 with registration. Children's costume contests will be held in four categories — ages 0-3, 4-5, 6-7 and 8-12 on Oct. 24 — with registration at 6 p.m. and a $2 entry fee per person. Admission to the festival is free. Halloween Howl: Main Street Zephyrhills will host its annual Halloween event from 4 to 9 p.m. Oct. 30 and 31 at the Main Street Zephyrhills District, 38434 Fifth Ave. The Howl will feature a costume parade, safe trick-or-treating, a haunted house, hayrides, bounce houses, pony rides, a petting zoo and carnival games. Run, ride or dance

Halloween train ride: Train lovers of all ages should be prepared to be scared as they ride through more than 2 miles of dark woods where they will encounter goblins, spooks and Halloween tricks, from 7 to 10 p.m. tonight, Saturday, Sunday, Oct. 23-25 and Oct. 30 at Crews Lake Wilderness Park, 16739 Crews Lake Drive, Shady Hills. Zombie Fun Run: A fun run for elementary and middle school students will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the James E. Grey Preserve, 6938 Plathe Road, New Port Richey. The cost is $5 in advance and $7 day of. For information, call (727) 841-4560.

A masquerade dance: The Latin-American Civic and Cultural Association of Spring Hill will host a masquerade dance from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Oct. 31 at Silverthorn Country Club, 4550 Golf Club Lane, south of Brooksville. Guests are encouraged to dress in costume. Music will be provided by Mambo Lebron and DJ Willie. Tickets are $15 for members and $20 for non-members.
