Hernando County fair, youth livestock show from April 5 – 13

Midway rides, entertainment at county fair

The Hernando County Fair and Youth Livestock Show and Sale will be April 5 to 13 at the Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 Broad St., Brooksville. This year's fair includes midway rides, agricultural farm exhibits, a kids' zone and entertainment. Gates and the midway open at 5 p.m. on weekdays and 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sunday. General admission is $8, $4 for ages 4 to 12 and free for children 3 and younger. Call (352) 796-4552 or visit hernandocountyfair.com.

City to host block party on Thursday

A block party will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brooksville City Hall, 201 Howell Ave. The party will include music by Eric Tremante, Joe Solomon, Terry Cole, Robert Swann, "Guitar Mike" and Jonathan Midge. Food, beer and wine will be available. The free event is hosted by the Brooksville Recreation Department and Friends of the Children. For information, call (352) 540-3835.

Can your blueberry pie win contest?

The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce invites those who love baking to enter the Hernando County Blueberry Pie Baking Contest, which will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hernando Marketplace event at Anderson Snow Park, 1360 Anderson Snow Road. The contest is open to amateur bakers of any age. The entry fee is $5. No team entries will be accepted. Pies must be made from scratch (no store-bought crusts or pies are allowed), and the primary ingredient must be whole blueberries. A recipe must accompany each entry. The top 10 will qualify for the finals May 4 at the Florida Blueberry Festival in downtown Brooksville. To register, call Dawn Badami at (352) 796-0697.
