Rotary benefit radio auction begins at 10 a.m.

The Rotary Club of Brooksville's 35th annual Live on Air radio auction will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, broadcast on WWJB-AM 1450 and WXJB-FM 99.9 radio stations. Bids may be called in at (352) 754-2500 or placed online at Nearly $50,000 in new merchandise and services will be auctioned. Proceeds benefit a number of local and national groups, including the Dawn Center, New Beginnings Youth Shelter and Camp Rotary.


Walk to support Relay for Life

A "Hoofin for Health" fundraiser for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Griffonwood Alpacas, 4063 Baseball Pond Road, east of Brooksville. There will be a 3.2-mile country walk, followed by entertainment, including a dove release, ballroom dancing, singers, face painting, a kickboxing demonstration, old-time music and entertainment by the Backwoods Boot Scooters. Chamber looks for best blueberry pie

Think you make the best blueberry pie in Hernando County? The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce invites those who love baking to enter the Hernando County Blueberry Pie Baking Contest, which will be at 1 p.m. March 30 at the Hernando Marketplace event at Anderson Snow Park, 1360 Anderson Snow Road. The contest is open to amateur bakers of any age. The entry fee is $5. No team entries will be accepted. Pies must be made from scratch (no store-bought crusts or pies are allowed), and the primary ingredient must be whole blueberries. A recipe must accompany each entry.
