iTunes celebrates App Store birthday with freebies

It's hard to believe the iTunes App Store went live for the first time only five years ago. To celebrate the anniversary, Apple has picked its Top Ten apps and games of the past half decade. All 10 are being made available through Sunday by their publishers for free in a special section of iTunes. Some of the freebies were originally priced up to $20, such as Traktor DJ, which is a suite of tools for mixing and recording music. The photo-text app Over, the Barefoot World Atlas app and the highly acclaimed recipe app How to Cook Everything from food writer Mark Bittman also are offered for free. Other games and applications available for free include greats such as Infinity Blade 2, Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP, Where's My Water?, Badland and Tiny Wings in the games section. So what are you waiting for? Get tapping! — Sharon Kennedy Wynne, Times staff writer
