Plan your weekend June 23-25: Pride parade, Lego art, Tampa Theatre beer fest 'Barley's Angels'

Plan your weekend

Parade

St. Pete Pride: More than 200,000 people are expected to revel on a new route Saturday along downtown St. Petersburg's scenic waterfront for a parade that has grown into the largest in the Southeast. There will be a free concert on Friday in Straub Park from 7-10 p.m. with local artists that will be a fundraiser for local non-profits. Saturday's festivities start at 2 p.m. with continuous music, a parade along Bayshore Drive at 6:30 p.m., followed by fireworks. stpetepride.com.

Lego

The Art of the Brick: Artist Nathan Sawaya's ingenious use of Lego bricks will be on display in a free exhibit opening Friday through Sept. 4 in Tampa's Channelside area thanks to the Vinik Family Foundation. It has been traveling the globe for 10 years, drawing huge crowds and was even named by CNN as one of the world's must-see exhibitions. Visitors can even make their own sculptures in a build area at the end. It will be open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 802 E Whiting St., Tampa. > >artofthebricktampa.com > >

Concert

Leslie Odom Jr.: Pardon me, are you Aaron Burr, sir? Tony-winning performer Leslie Odom Jr. brings his cabaret show, An Evening of Song with Leslie Odom Jr., to the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa. He had canceled two earlier dates, but we'll forgive anything from the guy who originated the part of Aaron Burr in Broadway's Hamilton. He released his self-named album in June 2016, the month before he left the show. See him on stage at 7 p.m. Friday in the Straz Center's Ferguson Hall, 1010 N MacInnes Place, Tampa. $50 and up. (813) 229-7827. strazcenter.org

Baseball

Star Wars Night: The Tampa Bay Rays will bring back the team's popular Star Wars Night on Saturday with costumed characters and a free Kevin Kiermaier Star Wars bobblehead that puts Kiermaier in an X-wing ship. See raysbaseball.com for tickets.

Date night

Zoo's Summer Sunset Celebration: This weekend kicks off the Lowry Park Zoo's Summer Sunset Celebration for date nights or family time to stroll the zoo as the sun sets. There will be live music, roaming entertainment, special dining options and an expanded light show finale Friday and Saturday 4-10 p.m. It's running weekends through July 29 and is included with admission. $32.95, $24.95 ages 3-11, 2 and younger free. Lowry Park Zoo, 1101 W Sligh Ave., Tampa. (813) 935-8552. lowryparkzoo.org

Take the kids

Sabrina Carpenter: The 18-year-old pop singer and star of Disney's Girl Meets World will draw a lot of tweens to Tropicana Field for the Rays game against the Baltimore Orioles at 1:10 pm. Sunday for her free post-game concert. This won't hurt, either: Free Rays fidget spinners for fans 14 and under. The concert is free with your ticket, but in a change from previous years, the team isn't issuing field wristbands; the stage will instead be set up along the right field line near the Papa John's Bullpen Box, with general admission seating in the stands. raysbaseball.com

Comedy

Alonzo Bodden: The winner in 2004 of the third season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Bodden has since had his own Showtime specials and appears regularly on NPR's Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me. He brings his topical humor to Side Splitters Friday through Sunday at 12938 N Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa. $14-$16. (813) 960-1197. sidesplitterscomedy.com

Beer

Barley's Angels: Tampa Theatre's annual beer-oriented major fundraiser Saturday night is usually a good excuse to dress funny and drink, and this year is no exception. The theme is Barley's Angels, so get your Drew Barrymore or Lucy Lu on. Or, if you're old school Farrah Fawcett or Jaclyn Smith. Guests enjoy craft and locally brewed beer samplings, snacks and tastes from top area restaurants, live music and themed food, and proceeds benefit Tampa Theatre. 8 p.m. $70 premium sampling, $45 Grand tasting. 711 Franklin St., Tampa. (813) 274-8982.

  3. Restaurant review: Noble Crust's second location is a boon to booming Wesley Chapel

    Food & Dining

    WESLEY CHAPEL

Wesley Chapel is said to be one of the fastest growing areas in the country, due to the perfect cocktail of available and affordable land, broad but upwardly mobile demographics and easy access to other parts of Tampa Bay. And while malls and brick-and-mortar retail centers have taken a big hit in …

The pizzas could use some refining at this location. Crusts struggled to stay crisp under toppings that were too heavy.
  4. This recipe for Meatless Meatballs and Spaghetti Squash is perfect for Meatless Monday

    Cooking

This meal is so healthy, I am not even sure how it's so delicious. It's a perfect plate for Meatless Monday: filling yet fun, with "meatballs" made out of crushed nuts and strands of spaghetti squash. The whole thing freezes surprisingly well, too, just note that the squash will be a little watery upon defrost.

  5. Reviews: Beck's 'Colors,' St. Vincent's 'Masseduction' thrive in vibrant, alternative pop worlds

    Music & Concerts

Flash back, if you will, to Aug. 25, 2015, and one of the more unusual stops on Taylor Swift's 1989 Tour. That night in Los Angeles, Swift brought out guests St. Vincent and Beck to perform the latter's single Dreams.
