Polk art museum now free on Thursdays

Lakeland's Polk Museum of Art has secured a grant from the Chao Foundation that will allow free admission to everyone on Thursdays. The museum already has free admission Friday and Saturday (thank you, BB&T and MidFlorida Credit Union) so now half the days the place is open, the art museum is free. On exhibit right now, running through Dec. 7, the museum is showing Paintings of the Space Age from the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, right, and reGeneration2: Tomorrow's Photographers Today. The museum's permanent collection focuses on modern and contemporary art, both American and European, Asian and pre-Columbian art. Admission is normally $5, and it is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at 800 E Palmetto St. in Lakeland. — Sharon Kennedy Wynne, Times staff writer
