Registration opens for annual Valentine's Day wedding in Largo botanical gardens

58 couples were married at the 9th Annual Valentine’s Day Group Wedding Saturday February 14th, 2015 at the Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo. Four additional couples renewed their vows. 

Including (center) Nancy Jimenez (left, in black) and Annette Cortes (right, in white), both of St. Pete. At 17, the pair had their first kiss. After many years apart, they met again four years ago, and have been together since. 

Pinellas County Clerk of Court Ken Burke  presided over the ceremony. This was the first year same-sex couples could participate. The ceremony included a poetry reading and musical performances before the exchange of rings. Afterwards couples and guests had cake and refreshments.

If an engagement ring was among your Christmas presents, the Pinellas Clerk of Courts has opened registration for the office's 10th annual Valentine's Day group wedding at the Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo.

Up to 50 couples are expected for the ceremony on Valentine's Day, which falls on a Sunday in 2016. More than 120 people tied the knot in 2015, including the event's first same-sex couple who could legally wed in Florida.

"Our Valentine's Day group wedding event grows with every year and we couldn't be happier to provide the community with such a beautiful and special celebration," Pinellas clerk Ken Burke said in a news release.

Held in the picturesque Wedding Garden, a single ceremony will unite all of the couples. Couples and guests will celebrate with wedding cake and refreshments from local sponsors.

The clerk has waived the normal $30 ceremony fee. Standard marriage license fees still apply.

To participate, couples must sign up no later than Jan. 29 at any of the following clerk's offices: Downtown Clearwater Courthouse, 315 Court St., Room 150; North County Branch, 29582 U.S. 19 N., Clearwater; Tyrone Branch - 1800 66th St. N., St. Petersburg; St. Petersburg Branch, 545 First Ave. N., St. Petersburg.

In order to be eligible, an application for a marriage license must be made between Dec. 17 and Feb. 10, 2016. Couples will receive a special commemorative certificate, which will be mailed within one week of the ceremony with the official marriage certificate.
