Sand sculptors compete on Clearwater Beach

CLEARWATER — Six sculptors are competing with themed creations in the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival's professional sand sculpting competition. Judging takes place Saturday.

The festival's theme, Beach Walk of Fame, features iconic Hollywood movies for this year's Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit, which opened April 4 and runs through Sunday on the beach. The sculpted areas inside the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit feature iconic movie characters and scenes.

Located just south of Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach, 1,000 tons of Clearwater Beach's sugar sands have been carved into an artistic walk-through display in a 15,000-square-foot tent.

The festival also includes a variety of free activities on Clearwater Beach, including the competition, sand sculpting clinics, speed sand demonstrations, a children's play area, extended hours for Sunsets at Pier 60 and entertainment.

The event is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission to the Beach Walk of Fame is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4 for students.
