CLEARWATER — Hundreds of people gathered Friday morning to join the opening ceremony for this weekend's Susan G. Komen 3-Day event, the last one scheduled in the Tampa Bay area.
The opening ceremony began at 7:30 a.m. in Sand Key Park. The event continues through 5 p.m. Sunday, with a closing ceremony at Spa Beach Park in St. Petersburg.
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk for women and men who help raise funds to fight breast cancer. Seventy-five percent of the proceeds raised helps support the Komen Research and Training Grant Program; the rest goes to local community and affiliate support and outreach programs.
