POPS IN THE PARK: Pack a picnic for Florida Orchestra
The popular date night and family outing returns this weekend when the Florida Orchestra puts on free Pops in the Park shows at 7 p.m. Saturday in St. Petersburg's Vinoy Park (with fireworks!) and 7 p.m. Sunday in River Tower Park in Seminole Heights. Half the fun is seeing the fancy spreads that come out of the picnic baskets, but the shows are crowd pleasers with a mix of familiar symphonic and pop favorites. Be sure to bring plenty of canned goods for Tampa Bay Harvest's annual food drive. For the St. Petersburg show, a free shuttle service will be available. (See stpetetrolley.com.) Vinoy Park is at 501 Fifth Ave. NE, St. Petersburg. River Tower Park is at 401 E Bird St., Tampa. floridaorchestra.org.
FUTURE IS NOW: Back to the Future Day
Great Scott! We have parties to celebrate Back to the Future Day. If our calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, we can set aside our hoverboard and note that next Wednesday is Oct. 21, 2015, better known as the day Marty McFly got to skip to in Back to the Future II. AMC and Regal theaters are doing one-night showings of the trilogy. There's a party for kids at the Glazer Children's Museum where they can build an imaginary time machine and cook up futuristic recipes. It's open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 21 and admission is $15, $12.50 military/seniors, $9.50 children, under 1 free, at 110 W Gasparilla Plaza, Tampa. At Crowbar in Tampa, the Come Back to the Future Party on Wednesday will have a costume contest and music by Come Back Alice, the Future Vintage Band, Row Jomah and special guests including Dennis Stadelman, Chris Sgammato and Christian Ryan. $10. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., at 1812 N 17th St., Tampa. (813) 241-8600.
