TAMPA — Tickets go on sale Saturday for the Magic of the Movies & Technical Awards show to be held one day before the Indian film industry's main awards gala at Raymond James Stadium.

Magic of the Movies will be April 25 at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre at the Florida State Fairgrounds. LiveNation.com indicated Wednesday that seats cost from about $100 up to $836, though it was not clear how many or which tickets would be available when sales open Saturday through ticketmaster.com.

Last week, International Indian Film Academy organizer Sabbas Joseph told the Tampa Bay Times that fans who already bought tickets for the main awards show on April 26 would have the first right to buy tickets to Magic of the Movies. Consistent with that, it appeared Wednesday that online buyers with a pre-sale offer code for existing customers could purchase tickets through LiveNation.com.

Magic of the Movies will highlight the work of musician Ustaad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, who is widely known to Indian audiences and has collaborated on soundtracks for Dead Man Walking, The Four Feathers and Apocalypto. The show will be hosted by actor Saif Ali Khan and actor-comedian Vir Das, with performances by stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Farhan Akthar, Bipasha Basu and a special musical act by composer Pritam.

The IIFA awards weekend, scheduled for April 23-26, will be the 15th edition of the awards show, but the first to be held in the United States. For the Tampa Bay area, the IIFA awards are expected to attract 30,000-plus visitors and generate an economic impact that's been estimated from $11 million to $30 million.

For the Indian film industry, bringing the awards show to the United States presents an opportunity to make new fans in a key part of the world.

"America is Bollywood's second-largest market," Joseph said. "The importance of it, one can't stress more."

As a warm-up, three-time IIFA best actress winner Vidya Balan will be in Tampa on Friday for a news conference and a lunchtime appearance at Joe Chillura Courthouse Square Park at Pierce Street and Kennedy Boulevard.

Balan is expected at the square at 12:15 p.m. for the monthly Eat at Joe's outdoor lunch and concert series. The event also will include Bollywood-style dancing, Hillsborough County Commissioner Al Higginbotham said.

In January, Bollywood stars Anil Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra drew a crowd of college-aged movie fans at the University of South Florida, but Balan's visit promises to provide the bay area with its biggest and most public appearance yet by a major Bollywood star.

During the IIFA awards weekend, Balan and Oscar winner and House of Cards star Kevin Spacey are scheduled to lead an acting workshop.
