Top things to do in Tampa Bay for the week of Aug. 29th-Sept. 4

Gecko Fest: This whimsical family street festival in Gulfport and "Zyde-Geck-O" second line parade with a 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea theme also celebrates Labor Day weekend and the end of summer. Labor Day Weekend: There's no better way to celebrate being a worker than getting a Monday off, and there are several events across the bay to enjoy. Celebrate Oldsmar is a two-night salute that begins Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. and continues Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. The free event at R.E. Olds Park (107 Shore Drive W, Oldsmar) features carnival rides and games (cost extra), live music, food and drinks for sale, and fireworks. (813) 749-1267. If you're looking for more of an adults-only vibe, check out Labor Day Weekend at Shephard's on Clearwater Beach, a four-day event with special guest DJs DVBBS and 3LAU on Saturday and Sunday. Date night

Music: Legendary Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler brings his solo tour, Out on a Limb, to Clearwater's Ruth Eckerd Hall today ($83.70-$203.75). Grammy Award-winning R&B singer/songwriter Jill Scott performs at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg on Thursday ($70.50-$106.50). Japanese punk band Peelander-Z brings its unique show to the Orpheum in Ybor City on Thursday ($10-$13).

Summer of Rum Festival: This Island-inspired celebration of rum takes place in Tampa's Channelside lot on Saturday, serving up more than 50 rums from around the world. Includes live entertainment with headliner Reel Big Fish. It runs from noon to 11 p.m., with general admission tickets ranging from $14-$25 or $80-$125 VIP. summerofrumfest.com.

Season Finale Fireworks: Labor Day weekend is the Clearwater Threshers' season finale fireworks show at Clearwater's Bright House Field. Watch the Threshers play Dunedin at 6:15 p.m., then stick around for the finale ($6-$10). threshers baseball.com.
