Top this: Burger Showdown in Curtis Hixon Park

Apparently all we need is a little comfort food — and a cholesterol screening. Bay area restaurants, including Danny's All American Diner, Ferg's and Eats American Grill, will fire up their grills in Tampa's Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park to battle for the best burger. You can vote, plus there will be celebrity judges, in a variety of categories such as People's Choice, Bring the Heat and the only one that really matters, Best Use of Bacon. The event benefits Culinary Operations Academy Parent Booster Organization that provides assistance to culinary students. Tickets include unlimited burger samples and one drink ticket: $20 advance, $25 at the gate. It runs 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at 600 N Ashley Drive, Tampa. And this is just to prime your arteries for next week in Curtis Hixon: the first-ever Mac & Cheese Throwdown is May 10.
