TAMPA — You don't have to be as dauntless as Tris Prior in Divergent to zipline over the city streets this fall — hundreds of people will get the chance to zip overhead in downtown Tampa for a day.
FitLine 2015 is giving people the chance to ride a 25-foot zipline across Franklin Street in downtown Tampa on Oct. 9 to celebrate the brand expansion for FitLife Foods.
The pre-made healthy meal provider and wellness coaching center is moving into other markets in the state and chose the heart-pounding stunt as an attention-getter.
"I'm excited to get the community involved to experience something exciting and new, and the energy of the FitLife lifestyles," CEO David Osterweil said in a news release.
Franklin Street will be closed from Madison to Zack streets from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day to house two ziplines, a rock climbing wall and information booths about healthy lifestyles.
Weather permitting, there will be 1,000 chances to zip down through the heart of downtown Tampa for fun or to participate in various challenges, said Nancy Vaughn, a spokeswoman for the event.
"There will be two ziplines side by side and underneath we'll have buckets for players to drop balls in to and also we'll be doing zipline races," Vaughn said.
Zips are $10, climb are $10 and a combination package is discounted to $15.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.
"It will be a fun Friday — a way for people to get out of the offices in downtown and de-stress," Vaughn said.
