How to make Watermelon Lime Granita

Granita is a must for summer, a simple recipe that can be endlessly adapted. The basic components are fruit (or some other flavorful product, like coffee), sugar, and a freezer. Granita can be eaten on its own as a light and low-calorie dessert, or atop fruit or even a cocktail for a bit of textural variety.

Watermelon Lime Granita

Ingredients

  • 1 small to medium-sized watermelon
  • 4 limes
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Cube and deseed watermelon. Firmly roll out the limes on a counter to release their juices, then cut in half and juice. Blend the juice of all four limes, the watermelon, sugar and cayenne pepper in a blender until it is a pourable liquid.
  2. Pour into a baking dish or individual serving cups and freeze for about 3 to 6 hours, until the liquid has become slush.
  3. Crush or scrape the granita with a fork and freeze for another 1 to 2 hours, until slushy but firm. Stir again and serve. Serves 4 to 6.
