On Thursday, the purchase of a burrito and a side of guacamole could do a lot more than just satisfy your lunch fix. It could also benefit homeless dogs and cats.
Chipotle restaurants around the Tampa Bay area have partnered with the Humane Society for what the Tex-Mex chain calls "Cause an Effect."
Each customer who comes in and mentions the event or the Humane Society at the register will have 50 percent of their total bill donated to the organization.
There are no minimum or maximum purchase requirements, and businesses and organizations are welcome to schedule events or office lunches in conjunction with the celebration.
But any customer interested in participating must either bring the flyer with them or mention that they would like the money to go to the Humane Society for the money to be donated.
There are 13 locations participating in the event in Tampa, as well as 12 working with the Humane Society in St. Petersburg and Clearwater.
Nearly 900 dogs and cats were provided shelter by the Humane Society of Tampa Bay in February, officials said.
The organization, which was started in 1912, has become a shelter for homeless animals and also features an animal hospital. Money from the event will go toward housing homeless dogs and cats.
