Dining planner: New grocers and shops for last-minute holiday shopping

DREAMS OF SUGARPLUMS: WESTSHORE PLAZA

Just in time for a little holiday shopping, a new confectionary comes to WestShore Plaza, offering classic candies alongside craft sweets and chocolates. Called Shelbyís Sugar Shop, itís the first of its kind, named after a fictional girl, Shelby, who journeys from the country to the big city (the store has bridge installations and animation marking the transition).

Shelbyís offers nostalgic candies and craft sweets and chocolates, including Toffee to Go, a Tampa-based producer of toffees in three distinct flavors. Shelbyís also features premium "cold brew" chocolates from Wild Ophelia, including chocolate coffee bites in sea salt caramel latte, Mexican vanilla and jet black flavors. Wild Ophelia was created to encourage, educate and sponsor American high school and college girls who have entrepreneurial dreams in food.

Think of the stocking-stuffer possibilities. In addition to packaged and bulk candies, guests can also stuff a Shelbyís themed lunchbox full of sweet treats. shelbyssugarshop.com.

NEW GROCERS: DUNEDIN AND PINELLAS PARK

Natureís Food Patch Market and Cafe is adding another location in spring 2018 in downtown Dunedin. Natureís Food Patch began in 1987 as an organic independent natural foods community grocery store and cafe in Clearwater. The store has been enthusiastically embraced by the health-minded community and is known for its commitment to organic foods, quality natural products, community involvement and on-site health education. The new location will debut at the Artisan building on Douglas Avenue in downtown Dunedin. naturesfoodpatch.com.

And this week, Pinellas Park added a new Latin market at 6273 U.S. 19 N, just south of Fett Motors and north of the Exxon Station. Mi Carreta Super Market encompasses the full range of Latin American cultures under one roof, with more than 2,000 items in stock from produce to frozen items and freshly baked goods. There will also be a daily hot, mostly Colombian buffet to go. (727) 575-7929.

SHAKEN AND STIRRED: OLIVE YOU

Have you had that crazy-good Italian olive salad at the Saturday Morning Market? Jerry Szkoruda has been selling it there for the past dozen or so years, with a little Jayís Marketplace shop on 49th Street that expanded to include some seating, all the better to enjoy his truly authentic muffuletta on the traditional round breads imported from Leidenheimer in New Orleans. He makes 1,000 bottles of the olive salad (green Italian olives along with an assortment of chopped vegetables blended with olive oil) every week, which give him this: olive juice. Listen up all you martini drinkers: Heís selling his delicious olive juice for $10 a quart at his shop, but also at local liquor stores like American Spirits, Tostiís, Luekens and Sarasota Liquors. Works for a martini, but also for a "dirty Bloody Mary," suitable for Christmas morning. 3618 49th St. N, St. Petersburg; (727) 528-0707.
