Rays' Maddon tweets a sneak peek at Ava restaurant in Tampa

Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon has provided a first look of his Tampa restaurant, Ava, through a stylish sketch on Twitter.

"Sneak peek at sketch of interior, and highly classy and kool Ava logo," he wrote Wednesday with his Twitter handle, @raysjoemaddon. The sketch shows an open-kitchen concept with lots of room to eat at high stools overlooking the action.

Maddon is working in collaboration with Michael Stewart, owner of Tampa's 717 South, on the restaurant project. Ava is set to open this summer in the Post SoHo apartment complex at W Swann and S Howard avenues.

The Italian menu will be multiregional, with an emphasis on simple and fresh dishes with quality ingredients. Italian charcuterie — salamis and house-cured meat — made in-house will also be featured. The wine list will draw on Maddon's extensive wine knowledge.

Restaurant review: Pin Wok and Bowl in St. Petersburg blends Thai and Japanese for familiar but solid fare

The name is a riff on rock 'n' roll (I hope not with a gesture at a bad Asian accent), the Pin part a reference to a lute-like stringed instrument in Thailand, the instrument a subtle decorating motif in the new restaurant.
