What’s happening in food: Florida Aquarium Brews by the Bay, Red Tide relief at Sea Dog

Sea Dog Brew Pub in Treasure Island is hosting a community-centered event called Locals’ Fest, an effort to highlight the neighborhoods by the gulf beaches and raise funds for coastal cleanup from this season’s Red Tide and benefit Tampa Bay Watch. Locals’ Fest features food booths, beer trucks, merchandise tents and live music. The entertainment lineup includes Seranation, SOWFLO, the lead singer of Passafire, the lead singer of Resinated, DJ Badda Skat, DJ Rollin, and more. Hope you’re thirsty. This year’s Brews by the Bay is a chance to sample more than 100 beers and bites from more than 30 restaurants accompanied by undersea views at the annual fundraiser for the Florida Aquarium. Live entertainment includes the Spazmatics and a silent disco. Get a glimpse into the production of beef, eggs, blueberries, kumquats, hops, peaches and salad greens in Pasco at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Pasco Local Food System Conference. It starts with an introduction to the brewing industry from local brewmasters and a discussion on small farms and food production planning. Here’s a deal for you. Specialty Restaurants Corporation (Castaway, Rusty Pelican) is celebrating its 60th birthday this year and throwing itself a little party. Today, all SRC locations will offer Dave’s Margaritas for 60 cents with the purchase of an appetizer or entree (but sip slow, it’s limited to two per person). The Dave in question is SRC’s founder David Tallichet, a tribute because it was his favorite drink. In addition, the restaurants will offer a 1958 Throwback Menu through Oct. 21, featuring a $19.58 teriyaki steak, crab cakes with tiki sauce, pineapple cheesecake and Mai Tais.
