Part cracker, part cookie, graham crackers can go a long way toward spicing up a boring lunch box. The long and lean crackers are a perfect canvas for peanut butter, fruit slices or even chocolate and marshmallow spreads. They're also sweet and crunchy enough to stand alone. The fifth-grade teaching team at Pasadena Fundamental Elementary School put five brands of honey graham crackers to the test for our readers. They might even keep a couple of the winners in their desk drawers for snack emergencies.

Judges'

comments
Once again, the store brand held its own in this tasting. Judges loved the Publix graham crackers for their deep honey flavor and perfect crunch. These weren't as sweet as some of the others, which appealed to the teachers as well. "These seemed to be a bit thicker and more satisfying than some of the others," said one. Another liked the crisp snap to the crackers. "They are fresh, crunchy with great honey flavor and they break evenly," she said. "These would be great with peanut butter."Target's store brand was another great graham. Judges liked the light color, the thickness of the crackers and the good crunch. "Wow, I love the texture and flavor," said one teacher. "I couldn't stop eating these. They are the perfect balance of sweetness and would be great eaten with nothing added." A couple detected a hint of vanilla flavor in the crackers.This popular brand of graham crackers did not go unnoticed by our tasters. The teachers loved the fresh flavor of the crackers and the perfect amount of crunchiness. "I like the light weight and the flaky inside," one panelist said. Another described them as "sweet and grainy." She kept her samples to eat during lunch.

    Sometimes, the more time you have with a project, the more complicated it gets. I started hearing about Mortar & Pestle in Seminole Heights about 18 months ago. It was the vision of Ujwal Patel, a pharmacist;
