The St. Petersburg Police Department hosts a Community Safety and Crime Prevention event from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tyrone Square Mall to kick off Crime Prevention Month.
The event will take place inside the mall at, 6901 22nd Ave. N, near the entrance to Sears. Neighborhood Crime Watch officers will have giveaways for kids and McGruff will encourage everyone to "take a bite out of crime."
The event will include displays by St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue and the St. Petersburg Police Department's SWAT team, including the new Bearcat armored rescue vehicle. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office helicopter is scheduled to make a surprise visit as well.
Other groups will be on hand as well, including the Boy Scouts of America and the Suncoast Safety Council and Florida Career College.
