'12 Years a Slave' dominates Florida Film Critics Circle awards

We're beginning to sense a pattern here. The historical epic 12 Years a Slave dominated another critics' association balloting, this time the Florida Film Critics Circle. The drama based on the memoirs of Solomon Northup won six prizes including best picture, actor (Chiwetel Ejiofor), director (Steve McQueen), John Ridley's adapted screenplay and two for supporting actress Lupita N'yongo including breakout star. The only other multiple winner was Gravity, for cinematography and visual effects. Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine) was named best actress, and Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) best supporting actor. Other winners included Spike Jonze for Her (original screenplay), Frozen (animated feature) and Blue is the Warmest Color (foreign language film). The Florida Film Critics Circle is comprised of 21 print and online media movie journalists. Complete results are available at floridafilmcritics.com — Steve Persall, Times movie critic
