Beasts of the Southern Wild is tonight's only best picture nominee with a running time under two hours (93 min.). Zero Dark Thirty is the longest best picture nominee, clocking in at 157 min.

Best animated short finalist Fresh Guacamole is the shortest movie ever nominated for an Academy Award (1 min. 45 sec.).

Tonight marks the first time that all five best supporting actor nominees previously won Oscars. Together they've combined for 25 nominations, with six wins and a seventh guaranteed.

There are four first-time Oscar nominees in tonight's acting categories, while nine of those 20 nominees are previous winners.

Michael Hanake's Amour is the fifth foreign language film ever nominated for the best picture Oscar, joining Z, Life is Beautiful, The Emigrants and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Les Misérables is first musical best picture nominee since Chicago won the prize in 2002. Overall, 10 musicals have won the best picture Oscar.

Best original score finalist John Williams (Lincoln) now has 48 Oscar nominations to his credit, second all-time only to Walt Disney (59).
