What happens when Bollywood action flicks meet Hollywood copyright? Stuttering titles like R ... Rajkumar, which was originally titled Rambo Rajkumar. But we all know there's only one Rambo, and he was victorious against Bollywood, too.
So heartthrob Shahid Kapoor stars as the titular not-Rambo Rajkumar, a drug cartel hit man/all-purpose muscle with a sense of humor. That is until he's told to kill a rival cartel dealer who also happens to be the uncle of Chanda, the woman he's fallen in love with.
If leading lady Sonakshi Sinha looks familiar, it might be because you saw her in last week's Bullett Raja, in which her character fell in love with a similar but less interesting central good-at-heart thug. From the looks of the trailer, she at least gets her own share of beating up bad guys this time.
After all, the movie's tagline is pyaar, pyaar, pyaar, maar, maar, maar — love, love, love, hit, hit, hit.
And writer-director Prabhu Deva rose to fame as a choreographer and dancer in South Indian Kollywood (Tamil) and Tollywood (Telugu) films, so the lovers and cartel ne'er-do-wells are all sure to dance well, too.
R ... Rajkumar, with subtitles, opens Friday at AMC Veterans 24 in Tampa.
