Cast for new 'Star Wars' movie includes Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis

No Jedi mind trick; this is the Star Wars cast you are looking for. Not only will the as-yet-untitled Episode VII cast include hot newcomers Adam Driver (HBO's Girls) and Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) but also the ORIGINAL Luke, Leia and Han Solo, their robotic buddies C-3PO and R2-D2, and Chewbacca to boot! That's right, according to Lucasfilms' website (starwars.com) the next Star Wars flick, due Dec. 18, 2015, will feature Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker and Peter Mayhew. Bet on them merely mentoring the next generation, not space-swashbuckling much at their ages. The cast announced Tuesday also includes motion-capture maestro Andy Serkis, who previously played the fantasy icons Gollum, King Kong and Caesar, leading a planet of apes. Episode VII will be directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, who worked wonders rebooting the Star Trek franchise. The story will be set 30 years after Return of the Jedi ended, explaining why Han and Luke are leaving the rough stuff to the kids, and maybe enough time for Ewoks to become extinct. — Steve Persall, Times movie critic
