Disney announces 'Finding Nemo' sequel

All that swimming, swimming, swimming Dory the blue tang fish kept doing is paying off. Disney and Pixar confirmed Tuesday that a sequel to Finding Nemo will be in theaters Thanksgiving weekend, 2015.

The title will be Finding Dory, with comedian/talk show host Ellen DeGeneres again voicing the adorably forgetful fish who helped Marlin the clown fish find his lost son Nemo in the 2003 original.

Marlin, Nemo and the Tank Gang of sea creatures are slated to return but no other vocal castings were confirmed Tuesday. Andrew Stanton will return to direct Finding Dory, after his foray into live-action filmmaking, John Carter, sank at box offices in 2012.

"I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time," said DeGeneres in a Disney-Pixar press release. "I'm not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating Toy Story 16.

"But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It's got a lot of heart, it's really funny, and the best part is — it's got a lot more Dory."

Finding Nemo is the fourth highest grossing animated film of all time worldwide ($906.4 million) behind Toy Story 3, The Lion King and Shrek 2. According to the news release, Dory is the most popular Disney/Pixar character ever, with more than 24 million "Likes" on Facebook. Finding Nemo won the 2004 Oscar for best animated feature.
