Eli Roth's new movie 'Aftershock' only opening at drive-in

Drive-in movie critic par excellence Joe Bob Briggs would love this piece of news: A new movie produced by Eli Roth, right, who turned frugal European travel into stomach-turning fun with the Hostel flicks, is opening Friday in Tampa Bay — but only at Tampa's Fun-Lan Drive-In Theater. The movie is titled Aftershock, and it's rated R for repulsive, judging by the red band trailer available online. Roth also stars as Gringo, who's drinking his way through Chile with friends when a massive earthquake hits and they're trapped underground in a nightclub. Lots of graphic noggin-smashing by falling debris below and marauding gangs above, plus one woman kissing the bumper of a speeding truck after poking her head from a manhole. And that's before the tsunami hits. Joe Bob would give Aftershock high ratings for bikini-fu, earthquake-fu and crush-fu then suggest you check it out. Fun-Lan Drive In is at 2302 E Hillsborough Ave., or you can just follow the trail of used barf bags. — Steve Persall, Times movie critic
